Costello – Compromise Taoiseach: Thursday 3 December 2009The Annual General Meeting and Members’ Evening giving members an opportunity to talk about an item of historical interest. Programme 2008Download the Annual Record 2008 (in Word document format) The programme of the society for 2008 was as follows: Down The Dodder Baggot Street Hospital Oliver St. John Gogarty - A Literary Journey Writers and Artists of Ballsbridge, Donnybrook and Sandymount From Bootmaking to Building- A look at how Patrick Plunkett and Patrick Cranny became Dublin 4 and 6 Developers Saturday 17 May 2008: McKee Barracks A tour to McKee Barracks, Blackhorse Avenue, Dublin 7 to see the Army Equitation School followed by a visit to the Garda Headquarters in the Phoenix Park. Afterwards, a trip to the nearby Military Cemetery, given by Michael Pegum. Saturday 7 June 2008: Sandymount Walking Tour A walking tour by Brian Siggins and John Holohan of some local historical sights in Sandymount. The itinerary includes St. John's Church, the Martello Tower, Merrion Strand and other sights. SCHOOLS LOCAL HISTORY COMPETITIONIn conjunction with the History Teachers Association of Ireland, the Ballsbridge, Donnybrook and Sandymount Historical Society have established a schools local history competition in order to promote the study and research of local history amongst the younger generation. A prize of €300 and a certificate will be awarded annually by the Ballsbridge, Donnybrook and Sandymount Historical Society to a second level student, for the best essay on a topic of local history based on the area of Ballsbridge, Donnybrook and Sandymount. Saturday, 20 September 2008 Walking tour from Baggot Street to Beggar's Bush with Pat Liddy. Wednesday, 24 September 2008 In conjunction with Pembroke Library, repeat lecture on Oliver St. John Gogarty by Guy St. John Williams in the library at 1.15pm. Thursday, 9 October 2008 A guided tour of the Treasures of the Royal Dublin Society - including the Members' Club, Library and Reception Rooms - by Dr. Kevin Bright. Thursday, 27 November 2008 From Horse-Drawn Trams to the Dart - a history of transport through the area - Jim Scannell.
